It’s Versailles Pumpkin Show time again, and it’s going to be bigger and better this year, celebrating 110 years! This year’s festival will run Wednesday, September 26 through Sunday, September 30. New to the festival will be craft booths, and a 5K Walk/Run, according to the Versailles Lions Club.
Wednesday will kick off the festival with opening ceremonies at 5pm, followed by local female vocal artist Morgan Romans and then the South Ripley Young Confederates. The King and Queen Contest, with contestants from area high schools, will begin at 7pm. Over the Edge, a classic rock/country band, will close out the night. Wednesday night will also be a 1-ticket ride night.
Local male vocalist Micah McFarland will kick off Thursday evening at 5pm, followed by the Prince and Princess Contest, with contestants selected from area elementary schools. The Pie Eating Contest will begin at 8pm. Hoosier Hill Bluegrass Band will then play for the evening crowds.
Friday night is the Talent Show, where area residents who sent in their demos in will compete on stage at 5pm. Jodi & the Creecher, and acoustical Blues/Classic Rock group will hit the stage at 6:30, followed by Nashville recording Country artist Aly’an at 8pm.
Saturday’s big events will begin at 10:30am with the parade through downtown Versailles. The Gold Star Chili--Chili Dog Eating Contest kicks off at 12:15pm on the stage, with contestants from local high schools. Children can paint pumpkins on the Ripley County Courthouse lawn in Versailles beginning at 12:30. The Giant Pumpkin winners and awards will be presented at 1pm. North of the stage will be the Children’s Tractor Pull at 1:30. Also new is a cornhole tournament at the old Tyson Gym from 1-5pm, with sign-up at 1pm.
The South Ripley Young Confederates will perform at 2pm on stage Saturday, followed by Casey Chapman and Cheyenne Burress, and DJ Adkins, young vocal artists from Dearborn County. The local high school Cheerleading Contest begins at 5pm.
Saturday night music is all about Holly Abbott, an American Idol contestant, at 6:30pm, and Rick K. and the Allnighters, a Rock and Roll comedy revue, taking over the stage at 7:30.
New to the schedule, the Versailles Lions Club has added a 5K Walk/Run at 1pm Sunday, September 30, with registration in front of the Schuerman Law Office building on the square in Versailles. Sign-up sheets are available at the Welcome Center, 220 E. U.S. 50, Versailles, or on Facebook: Ripley County Indiana Tourism. Rides will also be 1-ticket on Sunday, from 1-5pm.
The Art Show, sponsored by Tri Kappa Sorority, will again be held in the first floor of the courthouse each evening. Visitors can see the art and vote on their favorite painting or photograph.
